The TDA media relations team continues to work to generate media coverage that highlights both the rational benefits of teaching (such as pay and promotion prospects) and the emotional benefits (such as the day-to-day variety of the job and the enjoyability of working with young people).
This is achieved through a variety of techniques, including research-based news stories, features, case study placement and live media events. Examples of these methods can be seen on the News Coverage section of this website.
We have engaged a PR company, Munro and Forster to help deliver our PR campaign. Contact details are below. A new campaign is currently in development and details will be posted here shortly.
Looking ahead, the challenges for PR are changing as both the media climate and recruitment needs change. There will be an even greater emphasis on encouraging enquiries from eligible maths and science candidates, and with supporting conversions from enquiries to applications.
As a provider, there will be many opportunities for you to work with local journalists, helping to raise the profile of teaching, and encouraging suitable candidates to apply.
The TDA media relations team is happy to offer help and advice on how to promote teaching as a career locally, and we can often provide regional statistics from research we commission for PR purposes. If your press office is ever unsure of the TDA’s position on a current issue or would like to sound us out on responding to a query regarding teacher training, we are happy to give advice on suggested lines to take and possible statements.
To find out more about how the media relations team can help you, please contact us on 020 7023 8080 or: mediarelations@tda.gov.uk.
We also need your help. We are regularly asked for case studies by the media and if you know of a good teacher or trainee who will represent the profession well, please contact Sam Morley at Munro and Forster, details below:
